If you look at things just right, scrunch up your eyes your eyes, and skew good decisions a little bit, it seems possible that Deadpool 2 may have inadvertently ruined two major deaths from last longer week’s X-Men film, Dark Phoenix . Over at ScreenRant they remarked that it might be a case of an incredibly subtle, meta hint that told ceiling fans what was going on in the upcoming X-Men tv show — although the more likely scenario is usually that actor availability played a role. Consistently, it is fun to imagine that Deadpool ii was the case incredibly meta that the filmmakers intentionally, and silently, blew a pair of vast, upcoming reveals.
1st, the scene from Deadpool 2 . At one point in of the film, hoping to get help in the war on evil, Deadpool heads for your X-mansion. Overcome with frustration on the lack of a single recognizable X-Man to come aboard his crusade, Wade, unmasks into the hallway and monologues about the injustice of it all. As he does so , a group of X-Men including Cyclops, Beast, Squall, Professor X, Nightcrawler, and Quicksilver hear him and quietly find its way a door closed to prevent that loser from noticing their little get-together. What fans have noticed only a few some characters conspicuously absent because of the scene actually failed to make it from X-Men: Dark Tempe , which suggests that this meeting may well be happening during or after the events of film.
In Dark Phoenix , Jean Grey loses control of her newly-gained Phoenix powers and, as affecting various promotional trailers, inadvertently becomes fatal Mystique. This is the event that kickstarts much of the plot; the same breakdown this killed Mystique also took and the lives of some police officers, switching Jean overnight from a beloved superhero to a cop-killer and one of the the planet’s most wanted people. The X-Men and Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants both fail to take her back in, but a group of alien shapeshifters determine her and manage to take the girl’s under their wing. Ultimately, the person figures out that they do not have her interests in mind — and after the final, epic challenge on board a train, Jean flies the alien leader Vuk away into space and detonates, impacting them both.
The a shortage of Jean and Mystique in the Deadpool X-Men cameo certainly seems a bit bad mom in that context — but of course, Jennifer Lawrence and Sophie Turner tend to be very busy, and it could be them just couldn’t make their groundwork work to come do the cameo.
One clue, though? Swallow can be seen wearing a t-shirt featuring Nirvana’s “smiley face” logo. While it premiere appearance on a flier for the “Nevermind” release party, the image was trademarked throughout the 1992 — the same year X-Men: Dark Phoenix takes place.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is in theaters now. You can get Deadpool 2 on DVD, Blu-ray, and web stream video on demand.
